Belarus see off UAE 7-3 at Christmas tournament in MinskMINSK, 4 January (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko scored the winner and added three assists for Andrei Astashevich’s hat-trick as Team Belarus routed Team UAE 7-3 at the ongoing 13th Christmas International Amateur Ice Hockey for the Prize of the President of Belarus on 4 January.

Konstantin Koltsov found the net in the 2nd minute into the game to open the scoring for Belarus.

Team UAE is taking part in the Christmas ice hockey tournament for the third time. Last time Belarus and UAE met on the ice in Minsk the victory was celebrated by the hosts again, 11-8. The popularity of ice hockey in the UAE is steadily gaining momentum.

Belarus see off UAE 7-3 at Christmas tournament in MinskThe second day in Group A will feature UAE vs Switzerland (14.00 Minsk time), Belarus vs Balkans (19.00). In Group B Russia will face Finland (13.00) and Germany will take on Slovakia (17.00).

The Christmas International Amateur Ice Hockey for the Prize of the President of Belarus was first held in Minsk in 2005. The team of the President of Belarus is the nine-time winner of the Christmas international tournament (2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016). Team Russia is a three-time champion (2007, 2011 and 2015).
