Belarus’ national flag flies in Antarctica in honor of Second Congress of Scientists

MINSK, 11 December (BelTA) - Belarusian explorers in Antarctica have raised Belarus’ national flag and the banner of the National Academy of Sciences in honor of the Second Congress of Scientists, BelTA learned from the press service of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB).

On behalf of the 10th Belarusian Antarctic expedition, the expedition head Aleksei Gaidashov sent greetings to the delegates of the Second Congress of Scientists of the Republic of Belarus and all workers of the scientific sphere of the country. “Dear colleagues, dear friends! The team of the 10th Belarusian Antarctic expedition sends warm greetings from the coldest continent of the Earth to the delegates of the Second Congress of Scientists of the Republic of Belarus. It is significant that this event takes place in the Year of Science. Such attention on the part of the state is an honor. But it is also a kind of the credit of trust to the domestic science. The country, which supports the development of scientific thought, has good prospects for sustainable national development. Our science has glorious traditions. Belarusian scientists have entered many bright pages in the history of the international scientific progress. We have much to be proud of. Time presents us with new challenges, and the Belarusian science should be ready to cope with them,” the message reads.

The head of the expedition said that delegates of the Second Congress of Scientists have been entrusted with the honorable and responsible mission – to synchronize the policy on new technology, identify priorities and map out the new horizons of Belarusian fundamental and applied science for the coming years and in the future, to make a wider use of the rich scientific potential for dynamic development and prosperity of the country. “In honor of the congress the Belarusian research station in Antarctica raised the national flag of the Republic of Belarus and the banner of the Academy of Sciences of Belarus. We are with you in heart, thoughts and deeds,” he added,

The Belarusian polar researchers wished all workers of the scientific sphere of the country strong polar health, fruitful work, new scientific ideas, breakthrough discoveries in the interests of Belarus and international scientific progress.

The tenth Belarusian Antarctic expedition includes seven people: the expedition head Aleksei Gaidashov, the engineer-radio operator Maksim Gorbatsevich, the engineer-mechanic Aleksei Zakhvatov, the engineer-geophysicist Pavel Shablyko, the machines and mechanisms operator and repairman Artur Ivashko, the buildings and structures support technician and repairman Vladimir Nesterovich, and the medic Dmitry Kovko. The tenth Belarusian Antarctic expedition will last till the end of February – middle of March.

The Second Congress of Scientists will be held in Minsk on 12-13 December. The congress will bring together 2,600 delegates from all regions of the country, famous scientists of the Union State, the CIS, the leading foreign academies of sciences, international research organizations and centers.
