Belarus’ first cheese festival on 15 June

MINSK, 13 May (BelTA) – The first cheese festival near Minsk will take place in the Belarusian State Museum of Folk Architecture and Everyday Life near Minsk on 15 June, BelTA learned from organizers of the event.

Leading cheese manufacturers from various parts of Belarus will take part in the festival. Those are OAO Slutsk Cheese Factory, Babushkina Krynka (Mogilev), Savushkin Product (Brest), Vitebsk-based Moloko, OAO Dairy Products (Gomel). Products by other companies that shape the image of Belarusian food on the home market and abroad will be also on display.

“Many countries have held such food festivals for a long time,” BelTA has been told. “Celebrations of wine, chocolate, grapes, coffee, cuisine, meat and many other festivals have become popular in Europe and America. As far as cheese festivals are concerned, they are particularly popular in Italy, Ireland, Canada, the UK, and Ukraine. Such events attract foreign tourists and improve the image of the country”.

Belarus is one of the world’s top five exporters of dairy products and can pride itself on its cheese making traditions. The organizers want the first cheese festival near Minsk to popularize the country’s cheese industry and shape Belarus’ image abroad as a food power.

Visitors will be treated to contests, games, cheese sampling and so on. The guests are also in for a lot of pleasant surprises.

The festival will be held with assistance of the Culture Ministry, the Sports and Tourism Ministry, and the Information Ministry of Belarus.
