About 47,000 people take part in New Year celebrations in Minsk

MINSK, 5 January (BelTA) - More than 47,000 people gathered in the streets of Minsk to see in the New Year, the head of the ideology, culture and youth policy department at the Minsk City Hall Pavel Skalaban said at the meeting in the city hall, BelTA has learned.

"On the New Year's night entertainment shows were held at 23 venues, the largest of which were at the Palace of Sports and Chizhovka Arena. These events were attended by more than 47,000 people. During the period from 31 December till 2 January Minsk hotels reported the occupancy rate at 75%, about 90% of the guests were tourists from Russia,” said Pavel Skalaban.

On the New Year’s Eve and during the early days of the new year Minsk held more than 500 events. No flagrant violations of public order were reported. Five people needed medical help in Minsk on the New Year’s night: three of them received outpatient care, two were taken to hospital. From 31 December to 4 January 12 people got firework-related injuries (six of them were children), 45 people got slip and fall injuries due to black ice.
