2023 World Tennis League gathers top players in Abu Dhabi

MINSK, 21 December (BelTA) – World Tennis League will kick off in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates on 21 December, starring 16 top-tier male and female players from across the globe, BelTA has learned.

The Kites squad will feature Belarus’ world number 2 Aryna Sabalenka, Spain’s world number 64 Paula Badosa, Greece’s world number 6 Stefanos Tsitsipas and Bulgaria’s world number 14 Grigor Dimitrov. Today they will face the Eagles squad – Russia’s world number 57 Mirra Andreeva, Russia’s world number 3 Daniil Medvedev, Russia’s world number 5 Andrei Rublev and world number 33 Sofia Kenin of the United States.

The Hawks squad comprising Poland’s world number 1 Iga Swiatek, Poland’s world number 9 Hubert Hurkacz, France’s world number 20 Caroline Garcia and Norway’s world number 11 Casper Ruud will take on the Falcons squad – Kazakhstan’s world number 4 Elena Rybakina, Romania’s Sorana Cirstea, world number 10 Taylor Fritz of the United States, and India’s world number 138 Sumit Nagal.

The teams will play each other in a round-robin format. Following the round-robin phase, the top two teams will face off in the final on 24 December 2023.

The Hawks squad (Elena Rybakina, Russia’s Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Dominic Thiem of Austria and Germany’s Alexander Zverev) won the previous edition of World Tennis League in Dubai in 2022.
