15 countries to partake in Minsk festival of student theaters

MINSK, 5 September (BelTA) – The best young actors and theater figures from 15 countries will take part in the 11th international festival of student theaters Teatralny Koufar. BDU which is due in Minsk on 21-27 September, BelTA learnt from the press service of the university.

The festival under the motto “All Roads Lead to Koufar” will present plays from Albania, Belarus, Belgium, Brazil, the UK, Germany, Georgia, Iran, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Romania, Ukraine, and Croatia.

According to the Belarusian State University, the competitions will be held in a new format this year. The festival will mark the 450th birthday of English playwright William Shakespeare with the staging of his plays in Minsk. “Every scene will be unique. Besides, the guests of the festival will see last year’s project KoufarDramaLab,” the university said.

This year the organizers will present a premiere of the play It Is All Because Of Her. Alexander Marchenko has staged a joint play with the BSU people’s student drama theater On the Balcony. The Koufar program will welcome back the author’s project MonoK.

The program Koufar.by will traditionally include the best achievements of Belarusian student theaters. Although the majority of plays do not make the competition program, Minsk residents and guests will see the works of theaters from Minsk, Polotsk and Gomel.

The project Koufar-in-Motion will unite participants from various countries. “The work of actors and producers will be showcased at the closing ceremony of the festival,” representatives of the university noted.
