January 2018 in Belarus was rich in events, especially in sport: the Christmas ice hockey tournament, Minsk Open Winter Swimming Championships, the 3rd leg of the IWSA World Cup and the Tissot UCI Track World Cup. The Belarusian athletes once again showed good results: ‘the queen of biathlon’ Olympic champion Darya Domracheva won the Mass Start gold and the Pursuit bronze at the IBU World Cup in Antholz, Yauheni Karaliok of Belarus won the men’s 15km scratch at the home event in Minsk, and MAZ-SPORTavto team finished second at Dakar.

What other events stood out in the first month of 2018? Certainly, the history was written by people themselves. Miners, artisans, confectioners, representatives of various professions were the protagonists of the photographs and news stories. For example, a 10kg replica of Ellen Jewett’s Tortoise of Burden was recreated by Marina Morozova, a worker of the Orsha Bakery!
