International expo Art Capital: From France to Belarus opens in Minsk

International expo Art Capital: From France to Belarus opens in Minsk
1 Dec 2016

At the wrap-up of the Year of Culture in Belarus, Minsk got the honor to host Art Capital, one of the most prestigious and important events in the world of arts. Every year, it gathers thousands of artists from around the world in Grand Palais on Champs Elysees. Of course, the exposition in Minsk is much more modest in terms of the number of works. Still, it showcases the main showpieces of world-famous salons. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to France Pavel Latushko noted: “After the debut of Marc Chagall in Paris a century ago, this large-scale event has certainly become a major recognition of the Belarusian art in Europe.”

The exposition, which opened in the National Center of Contemporary Arts on 1 December, features 15 modern French artists. All in all, a total of 30 modern-art pieces have been brought from Paris. Four of the authors have come to Minsk for the first time in order to present their personal vision on art and creativity. Belarus is represented by 11 artists and sculptors who exhibited their works at the Belarusian national pavilion during Art Capital in Paris in 2015. Among them are the winners of the prestigious Taylor award: Grodno artist Valentina Shoba and Gomel sculptor Sergey Portenkov.
