Minsk enjoys a reputation of one of the most athletic cities of Europe and the world. Dozens of major international and domestic tournaments every year, comfortable urban infrastructure, active athletes – Belarusian capital really likes be active.
It is therefore not surprising that on the city day in 2018 Minsk turned into a huge sports arena. The program features the big sports festival on 8 September (near the Sports Palace and on the Svisloch River)and the Minsk Half Marathon on 9 September.
The most exciting moments from the Minsk City Day sports festival in our photo essay. The event featured the famous athletes from Belarus and abroad, thousands of active citizens and visitors of the capital and also the Belarus president. Alexander Lukashenko, who is also the head of the National Olympic Committee, took part in the 4x2.8km roller-ski relay. The four-member team featuring the head of state also included Olympic biathlon champion Nadezhda Skardino, skaters Marina Zueva and Ignat Golovatyuk.
