Looking forward to festivities: Vitebsk gearing up for Slavianski Bazaar 2018
7 Jul 2018

Less than a week is left before the 27th edition of the international art festival Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk will kick off in Vitebsk. Since its debut 27 years ago the festival has expanded its audience and extended its reach to far-away countries like Canada, Egypt, Guinea and Latin American states. These days fans from all over the world are booking the remaining tickets for the festival events, the organizers are making last-minute checks, while the native city of famous painter Marc Chagall has already welcomed the first visitors.

Although the main program of the Slavianski Bazaar 2018 festival is scheduled for 12-16 July, the first events were held on 7-11 July. This year the festival will offer a record high number of projects taking place all over the city. The Summer Amphitheater will be the center stage of the festivities with a total of 19 concerts to be held here. Other music venues will host 2-3 concerts every day each. The diverse program will feature art exhibitions and vernissages, theater premieres, anniversary concerts, press conferences and meetings with celebrities, an art parade, a festival of subcultures and a healthy lifestyle, the Summer Beat youth program. By the way, on 6 July Vitebsk marked Marc Chagall’s birthday with the Bella Chagall. Portrait of the Artist’s Wife exhibition.

The festival will be officially up on 12 July: an opening concert “The Place Where You are Always Welcome” dedicated to the Native Land theme will be held on the historic stage of the Summer Amphitheater that turns 30 this year. The concert will bring together the old friends of the festival: famous artists from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine and other countries. For many Slavianski Bazaar has become a creative home and opened the door to the world of arts.
The artists will be accompanied by five orchestras: the State Orchestra under the baton of Mikhail Finberg, the orchestras of Emir Kusturica and Goran Bregovic, the orchestra of People's Artist of Russia Oleg Menshikov, Vivaldi-Orchestra under the baton of Svetlana Bezrodnaya.
