Belarusian Towns: Slutsk
9 Aug 2016

The nine centuries old town of Slutsk is famous in Belarus and abroad thanks to its unique legacySlutsk belts which have become a true cultural brand of the country. The town’s history is connected with one of the most influential dynasties in Europe – the Radziwill family – who opened the first gymnasium and printing house in the town, the first pharmacy in Belarus, the professional ballet school, and the famous manufactory of silk belts in Slutsk.

The ancient weaving technology has been restored these days and is developing. A unique museum featuring the process of making original accessories is opened in the town.

Despite many architectural monuments were destroyed during the Great Patriotic War, the guests of Slutsk can see a lot of landmark and popular places. The main landmark of Slutsk is St. Michael the Archangel Cathedral, a unique wooden church of the 18th century. Other sights of Slutsk are the building of the nobility assembly, a men’s gymnasium, a 1767 theology school, a Bernardine monastery, a post office, and the monument to St. Sophia of Slutsk – the celestial patroness of the region and the last princess of Slutsk whose relics are preserved in the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Minsk.

Belarus.by invites you to take a summer walk along the streets of Slutsk…
