Vitebsk Marks 129th Anniversary of Marc Chagall’s Birthday

Vitebsk Marks 129th Anniversary of Marc Chagall’s Birthday
8 Jul 2016

Vitebsk, a cozy city on the bank of the Dvina River, is known to connoisseurs of art as a homeland of talented painter and graphic artist Marc Chagall. A unique atmosphere, childhood memories and even the smallest "details" of the native places – streets, house roofs, church domes, people and animals - have become an inseparable part of the special and mythic world that the artist of the 20th century avant-garde captured on his canvases.

On 7 July, Marc Chagall’s birthday, Vitebsk greeted its guests with a varied program of celebrations that kicked off on City Day. The program offered a mix of various “colors”:  a theatrical parade, the unveiling of a commemorative plaque and a long-awaited  Chagall Street, flower ceremonies, the 3rd International Chagall Plein Air, an exhibition of artworks by young artists and the Visiting Marc and Bella mystery play…
