MINSK, 24 November (BelTA) - The Third Committee of the UN General Assembly adopted by consensus the Belarusian resolution on improving the coordination of efforts against trafficking in persons on 23 November, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“The resolution highlights interrelation between sustainable development and eradication of human trafficking. The document is aimed at fostering cooperation and coordination among all relevant stakeholders: governments and international organizations, civil society, private sector and media, in order to eliminate the shameful business, prosecute its perpetrators and restore dignity and rights of victims of trafficking,” said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Almost 60 countries from around the world co-authored this document. “The resolution adopted on the initiative of Belarus is an important step towards the global partnership against modern slavery,” the press service stressed.
The United Nations member states unanimously supported the initiative of the Republic of Belarus to organize a large-scale high-level meeting in October 2017 to assess the implementation of the Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons, adopted on the initiative of Belarus in 2010.
