MINSK, 14 October (BelTA) – The issues of developing relationship between Belarus and the European Union was highlighted by Foreign Minister of Belarus Sergei Martynov during his working trip to the Republic of Finland on 13 October. The two sides, in particular, discussed cooperation within the Eastern Partnership programme, Belarus-EU legal framework, trade liberalization with the European Union and simplification of visa formalities for Belarusian people, BelTA learnt from the Foreign Ministry.
Sergei Martynov held negotiations with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland Alexander Stubb and also met with President of Finland Tarja Halonen, Minister of Economy Mauri Pekkarinen, Minister of Foreign Trade and Development Paavo Vayrynen and representatives of the Finnish Parliament.
In Helsinki, Sergei Martynov also discussed a wide range of issues of the bilateral relationship with Finland, including a political dialogue, trade, economic and investment cooperation, legal framework, cooperation in environment, humanitarian area, education and interregional collaboration.
Belarus and Finland discussed Belarus’ participation in the Wider Europe Initiative of the Finnish Government that provides an opportunity to carry out joint projects in security, social stability, information society, environment protection and energy efficiency.
The negotiations also focused on the cooperation between Belarus and Finland in international organisations: UN, OSCE, Council of Europe and Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly.
The two Foreign Ministers talked over the prospects of cooperation within the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) and the EU Northern Dimension initiative.
