Olympics 2016: Belarus’ Javid Hamzatov wins Greco-Roman 85kg bronze

MINSK, 15 August (BelTA) - Javid Hamzatov of Belarus claimed the Olympic Greco-Roman wrestling bronze in the men’s 85kg class in Rio, BelTA has learned.

The 26-year-old Belarusian saw off Bulgaria's Nikolay Bayryakov in a bronze medal bout.

Hamzatov’s rival reached the bronze final through the repechage and finished his last fight 10 minutes before he encountered the Belarusian wrestler. Javid Hamzatov seized the initiative from the very start and took a solid win, 4-1.

Olympics 2016: Belarus’ Javid Hamzatov wins Greco-Roman 85kg bronzeJavid Hamzatov launched his Rio campaign by beating China’s Peng Fei 4-0 in the round of last 16. The Belarusian wrestler then left no chances to Austria’s Amer Hrustanovic, 9-0, before losing to Ukraine’s Zhan Beleniuk 0-6.

Belarus President congratulates Javid Hamzatov on Olympic bronze

MINSK, 16 August (BelTA) - Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko has congratulated Belarusian Greco-Roman wrestler Javid Hamzatov on winning a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympic Games, BelTA learnt from the presidential press service.

Olympics 2016: Belarus’ Javid Hamzatov wins Greco-Roman 85kg bronze “In terms of the tough competition with your opponents you have displayed outstanding sports mastery, iron character, and the will to win. Your medal is a very important achievement for the Belarusian wrestling school which instills hope in thousands of Belarusian boys going in for this truly Olympic sport,” the message of greetings reads.

Alexander Lukashenko wished Javid Hamzatov and the entire Belarusian Greco-Roman wrestling team strong health, happiness, and scintillating victories.
