MINSK, 24 February (BelTA) – Belarus hopes for the start of a good dialogue with the European Union, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said as he met with Deputy Secretary General for the European External Action Service Helga Schmid, BelTA has learned.
“I hope that it is the beginning of a good dialogue with the European Union. We have been talking a lot about the relations between the EU and Belarus recently. I think that it is a good thing that we are making progress. At least, now the relations between Belarus and the European Union are less unclear than they were earlier,” the President said.
Alexander Lukashenko stressed that Belarus is ready to build relations with the EU on an equal and non-discriminatory basis.
The Belarusian President also praised the professionalism of Head of the EU Delegation in Belarus Maira Mora. “You have a good representative here, and I think that she is an unbiased person who will provide you with absolutely objective information about the events in Belarus. Perhaps, she is one of few western representatives well received by the society. Therefore, I am grateful to the European Union for such people who, at least, are trying to understand what is going on in Belarus,” the Belarusian leader noted.
