Lukashenko: Both West and Russia need a calm and safe Belarus

MINSK, 12 September (BelTA) – Both West and Russia need a calm and safe Belarus. Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko made the statement in an interview with the news agency TASS, the press service of the Belarusian leader told BelTA.

“Both Europe and Russia need us. Particularly now,” said the head of state. “They need a quiet, calm, and safe country where any European event can be held in the interests of the European Union and Russia. Events in Ukraine demonstrated it.”

“I am proud that Belarus plays this role with god’s blessings. Let there be such a country between the West and the East where these problems can be peacefully discussed. You are welcome to negotiate here whenever you want,” stressed the Belarusian leader.

Alexander Lukashenko also spoke in favor of resolving the conflict in Ukraine as soon as possible. “It has to be resolved. The sooner the better. Any war ends in something. In what? It ends in peace. Consequences are what matters. The consequences will be beneficial for Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, and the entire world if we end the conflict as fast as possible,” Alexander Lukashenko is convinced.

The head of state noted that relations with the West and the East are equally important for Belarus. “This is why don’t reproach us for talking to the West and don’t force us towards Russia. We are destined to live in the center, at this crossroad. And it is necessary to get wiser in order to live in this situation,” said the President.
