Listapad 2017 film festival gets underway in Minsk

Listapad 2017 film festival gets underway in Minsk

MINSK, 3 November (BelTA) – The 24th installment of the Minsk international film festival Listapad kicks off in the Belarusian capital on 3 November, BelTA has learned.

The festival will be held under the slogan Truth, Love, and Beauty. As many as 165 pictures by directors from 55 countries are to be screened at six Minsk movie theaters.

The competition program is traditionally divided into four sections: feature films (the main competition and the debut film competition Youth on the March); documentaries (the main competition and the contest of national film schools); the Listapadzik children and youth film competition; the national competition (fiction films, documentaries, and animated films).

The main feature and documentary film competitions focus on new movies produced in the former Eastern Bloc countries: the CIS, Central and Southeast Asia, the Baltic states, and Eastern and Central Europe.

The winners of the main prizes are to be announced by the professional jury comprising high-profile cinema experts. This year, the jury will be chaired by the Hungarian director Bence Fliegauf. An audience award will also be presented to the winner of the voting.

The festival is traditionally hosted by the Tsentralny, Mir, Pioner and Pobeda movie theaters. In 2017, films will also be screened at the Belarus cinema and Falcon Club Cinema Boutique. The opening and closing ceremony and special screenings will take place at the Moskva film theater.

This year, the opening film will be Boris Khlebnikov’s Arrhythmia which has already took home the Grand Prix at Russia's national film festival Kinotavr. The winners will be announced and awarded on 10 November. The festival is to wrap up with a screening of The Samurai in Autumn by Danilo Beckovic (Serbia).

The Listapadzik children and youth film competition will take place from 4 to 7 November to be opened by Andreas Dresen’s Timm Thaler based on the eponymous book.

Several events will take place at the industrial platform Bel:Cinema, the Art Belarus Gallery, and the Mikhail Savitsky Art Gallery. In 2017, the focus will be placed on screenwriting. This topic will become the centerpiece of an educational training to gather young Belarusian directors, screenwriters, and students of art schools with their projects. Following the results of the script lab, a pitch event will take place to be juried by representatives of international film festivals. Everyone interested in the art of cinema will be able to attend presentations of the educational programs MIDPOINT and WHEN EAST MEETS West, the B2B Doc training, and other events.
