Estonian film November wins Listapad 2017 Grand Prix

MINSK, 10 November (BelTA) - The Grand Prix of Listapad 2017 went to the picture November (Estonia-Netherlands-Poland). The winners of the 24th Minsk International Film Festival Listapad were announced at the awards ceremony on 10 November, BelTA has learned.

When accepting the award, November director Rainer Sarnet noted that during the making of the film, the team was concerned about whether other nations would be able to understand it given that the movie was inspired by the Estonian mythology. This is why, he said, he is happy that the film is critically acclaimed and highly rated.

The movie also won the Award for Best Score (Sound Design) and the Marukhin Award for Best Cinematography.

Asif Rustamov, Ilgar Najaf, and Roelof Jan Minneboo received an award for Best Screenplay for The Pomegranate Orchard (Azerbaijan) directed by Ilgar Najaf.

The panel of judges gave the Award for Best Actor to Meinhard Neumann for Valeska Grisebach’s Western (Germany-Bulgaria-Austria) and the Award for Best Actress to Irina Gorbacheva for Arrhythmia by Boris Khlebnikov (Russia-Finland-Germany). Arrhythmia also won a special jury award.

Sarunas Bartas received the Best Director Award for the movie Frost (Lithuania-France-Poland-Ukraine).

The main competition diplomas went to actor Gurban Ismailov for The Pomegranate Orchard (Azerbaijan, director llgar Najaf) and to Veronica Lin and Alden Knight for Best Pair in Candelaria by Jhonny Hendrix Hinestroza (Colombia-Germany-Norway, Argentina-Cuba).

The 24th edition of the Minsk international film festival Listapad took place from 3 to 10 November. Listapad was established by the Belarusian Culture Ministry and Minsk City Hall in cooperation with the National TV and Radio Company, the National Film Studio Belarusfilm, and the Belarusian Union of Cinematographers. The festival was organized by the visual and performing arts center ART Corporation.
