OSLO, 26 May (BelTA) – The band 3+2 from Belarus reached the final of the 55th Eurovision Song Contest that is takeing place in Oslo this year, BelTA has learnt.

The representatives from 17 countries performed at the stage of Northern Europe’s largest indoor stadium Telenor Arena.

Among those who qualified for the final were also performers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, Russia, Greece, Portugal, Serbia, Belgium, Albania and Iceland.

The 3+2 band performed their song Butterflies written by Russian composer Max Fadeyev and Polish poet Malka Chaplin. Well-known Swedish musician and composer Robert Wells accompanied the band.

Reaching the final is a high result for the country, as it has happened just for the second time in the history of Belarus. The first time the country reached the finals was in 2007 thanks to Dmitry Koldun with his song Work your magic. His performance brought the country to the sixth place in the final then.

Belarus has been taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest since 2004. The duet Alexandra and Konstantin were the first to represent the country at the contest with their song My Galileo. They landed 19th in the semi-final. Anzhelika Agurbash represented the country in 2005 (the song Love Me Tonight, and the 13th place in the semi-final).

In 2006 Polina Smolova with her song Mother took the 22nd position in the semi-final. Ruslan Alekhno (the song Hasta la Vista) placed the 17th in the semi-final in 2008. Last year Piotr Yelfimov and his composition Eyes That Never Lie took the 13th position in the semi-final.

The second semi-final of the Eurovision 2010 will take place on 27 May. The final will be held on 29 May.
