Belarus, China sign treaty of friendship and cooperation

MINSK, 10 May (BelTA) – The treaty of friendship and cooperation between the Republic of Belarus and the People’s Republic of China was signed by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and China President Xi Jinping following the officials talks on 10 May, BelTA has learned.

According to the document, the extension of friendly ties and strengthening of the legal framework of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Belarus and China serve the interests of the two states and peoples, meet the needs for the development of bilateral relations and promote peace, security, and stability in the Eurasian region.

The parties agreed to build up mutual trust and strategic cooperation, to support the development ways and models chosen by each of the countries in accordance with their domestic needs, to support each other’s positions on the issues relating to their core interests, promote each other’s economic development strategies.

Belarus and China agreed to jointly foster the development of the Silk Road Economic Belt and expand cooperation in the trade, economic, financial, investment, sci-tech, energy, space, transport, IT, agricultural, humanitarian and other areas.

“The parties to the treaty take the joint efforts to preserve and strengthen peace and stability in Eurasia, to turn the region into a zone of peace, security and sustainable development, joint wellbeing and harmony,” the document says.

The treaty is subject to ratification and comes into force on the date of the exchange of the ratification notes.

Alexander Lukashenko and Xi Jinping also adopted a joint declaration of Belarus and China on further development and strengthening of all-round strategic partnership. The document highly praises the successes reached in the bilateral relations and in all areas of cooperation since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Belarus and China.
