Guminsky expresses hope for successful OSCE PA observation mission in Belarus

MINSK, 22 September (BelTA) – Belarus will create all necessary conditions for a successful observation mission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE PA) at October’s presidential election, Vice Speaker of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus Viktor Guminsky said as he met with Vice President of the OSCE PA Kent Harstedt on 22 September, BelTA informs.

“Belarus will do its best for the fulfillment of your mission in our country. I am confident that high professionalism and extensive experience in election monitoring will help you perform your mission successfully,” said Viktor Guminsky.

In his words, the previous meeting with Kent Harstedt in the Belarusian government took place in June 2015. “I am glad that many issues that we discussed at our previous meeting are being consistently implemented,” he added. Viktor Guminsky expressed gratitude to the OSCE PA Vice President and asked to pass his gratitude to President of the Parliamentary Assembly Ilkka Kanerva for accepting the invitation to monitor the presidential election in Belarus.

Kent Harstedt visited Belarus as the OSCE PA Vice President in late June 2015. He held meetings with representatives of the Belarusian parliament, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Central Election Commission. It is expected that the mission of short-term observers led by Kent Harstedt will come to Belarus on 7 October.
