MINSK, 21 June (BelTA) – All Europe is waiting for the 2nd European Games to start, Mark Hauptmann, Chairman of the German-Belarusian Parliamentary Friendship Group, member of the Committee on Economic Affairs and Energy of the German Bundestag, said as he met with Chairman of the Council of the Republic of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich, BelTA has learned.
A German parliamentary delegation led by Mark Hauptmann is in Belarus on a visit for the 2nd European Games. “The games are a special occasion,” he said. “They give us an opportunity to get to know Belarus better.”
Mark Hauptmann said that he enjoys the atmosphere in the Belarusian capital and the mood of people. He also commended the volunteers’ work. “Minsk should be praised for hosting these competitions,” he said.
Mikhail Myasnikovich wished the Bundestag delegation to get pleasant emotions from the 2nd European Games. The German delegation to the games includes over 150 people. Mikhail Myasnikovich wished the German athletes success. “We have been doing our best to ensure a pleasant and interesting stay for fans, athletes, and coaches,” he noted.
The 2nd European Games will feature 4,000 athletes from 50 European countries competing in 15 sports. Minsk is hosting such a large-scale sport event for the first time. The games may draw over 500 million TV audience not only from Europe but also from Asia, Africa, North and South America.
