MINSK, 29 June (BelTA) – Belarusian wrestler Vasilisa Marzaliuk won the Women’s 76kg gold at the 2nd European Games in Minsk, BelTA has learned.
On her way to the podium the Belarusian beat Russia’s Natalia Vorobieva 2-1, Austria’s Martina Kuenz 3-2, Estonia’s Epp Mae 5-3 and Germany’s Francy Raedelt 9-0.
“I felt the responsibility and knew that I could do everything. I just fought for the victory. Today it was easier for me than yesterday. I did well,” said Vasilisa Marzaliuk.
Head coach of the Belarusian national women’s wrestling team Oleg Raikhlin was happy with the performance of his team. “The first day was difficult. We did not win medals in the events we could. There is tough competition here. Iryna Kurachkina did really well. We have the Olympics ahead. There is no time for relaxing,” he said.
Belarus’ Iryna Kurachkina won the Women’s 57kg gold. Viyaleta Chyryk finished fifth in the Women’s 50kg event. Ali Shabanau took the Men’s 86kg silver. Aliaksandr Hurshtyn secured the Men’s 97kg bronze.
The wrestling competitions of the 2nd European Games will be over on 30 June. A total of 288 athletes are competing in 18 medal events.
MINSK, 29 June (BelTA) - Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko congratulated member of the national wrestling team Vasilisa Marzaliuk on the gold medal in wrestling of the 2nd European Games, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian leader.
“Experience, confidence and a strong will helped you to the victories in all your bouts. Your gold medal is a decent reward for your skills, discipline and dedication. We are proud of you,” the president stressed.
Aleksandr Lukashenko wished Vasilisa Marzaliuk strong health, wellbeing and new victories.
