The smallest Oblast in Belarus, Grodno lies in the west of Belarus with a population of 1.1 million people. The region is dominated by the chemical industry with firms like Grodno Azot (fertilisers), Khimvolokno (chemical fibres) and Lakokraska (paint and varnish) vital to the economy.
More than a third of the region’s output is produced by food and machine-building industries, and it has a highly developed agricultural sector, including milk and meat stock-breeding, pig-breeding, potato growing and flax cultivation in the east and sugar-beet growing in the west.
Created in 2002 to attract investment, employment and high-technology industry to the city of Grodno, in western Belarus.
