Western bypass road in Brest, Belarus’ largest transport interchange
The largest transport interchange in Belarus was built in Brest. The official inauguration ceremony featuring the Belarusian head of state took place on 6 September 2019, ahead of the Brest millennium celebrations. Brest is a near-border city, one of the largest transit hubs in Belarus and Europe, and one of the links of the new Silk Road. The project helped the city solve many of its transport problems. The new road linked the shores of the Mukhavets River, the Varshavski Most and Kozlovichi border checkpoints. Huge traffic flows were redirected from the center of Brest to the bypass road. The construction of the bypass road took two and a half years. Constructors found unique solutions and even patented some of them. The monolith ring is 140m in diameter and features five railway crossings. The ring and the overpasses rely on more than 1,000 beams up to 33m high.
