Swamps are a special pride of Belarus and Europe. They occupy a territory of 863 hectares. Some 314 hectares have a status of internationally protected territories. No other country in Western Europe has such big and diverse wetlands. The total area of individual bogs reaches 110 square kilometers. The biggest Belarusian wetlands are included in the List of Wetlands of International Importance (the Ramsar List). These are Sporovo, Middle Pripyat, Zvanets, Olmanskiye Bogs, Osveisky, Yelnya, Kotra, Prostyr, the Berezino Biosphere Reserve, Vygonoshchanskoye, Morochno, Stary Zhaden, Duleby – Zaozerye Islands, Kozyansky, Vydritsa bogs, the Pripyat National Park, and the Dnieper River basin.
