Belarusian doctors have made a valuable input in global cardiology

It took more than 15 years for MD Yelena Grigorenko, a cardiologist with 25 years of experience, to leave her mark not only in Belarusian but also in global cardiology. She was the first in the world to assess the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases in the late postoperative period in people with a transplanted liver. Yelena Grigorenko, together with a team of specialists from a variety of fields, had monitored patients with transplanted liver for a decade (note: such patients are in the high cardiovascular risk group). The doctors monitored the state of the recipients' cardiovascular system and were able to identify key risk factors. Thus, a cardiovascular risk calculator was developed (patients with a low risk will just need to take medicines, while high-risk patients will need intensive treatment). The demand for such methods is growing from year to year in direct proportion to the number of people in need of a liver transplant. The presentation of a doctoral diploma to Yelena Grigorenko (January 2024) served as recognition of her services to Belarusian medicine and science.
