The country’s key holiday is Independence Day, which is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Belarus’ liberation from the Nazi invaders. The holiday has become particularly solemn and memorable. The day before in honor of defenders of the Fatherland and the deed committed by the Belarusian nation, which lost every third resident during the war, the renewed Belarusian State Museum of Great Patriotic War History opened in Minsk. Following the established tradition, the festive events on 3 June began with the commemoration of the fallen warriors by placing wreaths at memorials and arranging one-minute silence. Throughout the country the celebration continued as concerts, meetings of veterans and entertainment programs. The most entertaining event of Independence Day was the majestic army parade and the theatrical performance in Minsk, which took place for the first time. Millions of Belarusians watched the parade live on television. The parade began with a magnificent flypast of 40 aircraft and helicopters. In the evening parade ranks of over 3,700 military personnel and a mechanized column of 240 specimens of modern weaponry and military hardware marched along Pobeditelei Avenue. The number included the famous systems Iskander and S-400 Triumph. Among the unique military hardware dating back to the Great Patriotic War spectators were able to see rare tanks of the 1930-1940s. The celebration of Belarus Independence Day culminated in a gala concert and a colorful salute. Later on the entire Belarus joined in the patriotic action Let’s Sing the National Anthem Together.
