Andrei Orlovsky vs Andreas Kraniotakes in Battle on Nemiga tournament
On 29 November Belarus’ Andrei Orlovsky won a bout against the German fighter of the Greek origin Andreas Kraniotakes in the 93kg+ category. The bout took place at Minsk Arena as part of the big mixed martial arts tournament Battle on the Nemiga River. Andrei Orlovsky is a three-time world champion according to the UFC, one of the largest mixed martial arts promotion companies in the world. It was the first professional bout on home soil in his career. When entering the ring Andrei Orlovsky was wearing a hockey jersey with the name of his friend and captain of the Belarusian national ice hockey team Ruslan Salei, who died in the air crash. It was to Ruslan Salei that Andrei Orlovsky dedicated his victory over Andreas Kraniotakes to. After the bout the head of the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation, Yevgeny Vorsin, gave Andrei Orlovsky a certificate for the opening match of the 2014 IIHF World Championship in which Belarus will take on the United States.
