Belarus in UNESCO – 60 years
This year Belarus celebrates the 60th anniversary of its membership in one of the most prestigious international associations - the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova visited Belarus and participated in the celebrations. In Minsk she met with President Alexander Lukashenko who emphasized that Belarus is eager to continue its fruitful cooperation with UNESCO. Irina Bokova took part in a ceremonial session of the National Commission of the Republic of Belarus for UNESCO. The sides agreed to create two new reserves, to add more Belarusian sites to the UNESCO World Heritage List, and to hold joint social and educational projects. Besides, Irina Bokova presented the UNESCO Five Continents commemorative medal to the renowned National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of Belarus. At the end of her trip to Belarus she visited the unique museum complexes of the Mir Castle and the Nesvizh Palace included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Video
