Belarus honors its Olympic heroes

A ceremony to honor the heroes of the 22nd Olympic Games in Sochi brought together athletes and their families, members of the Belarusian national team, representatives of the country’s sports elite, artists and government officials. Thanks to the fantastic performance at the Sochi Olympics Belarus got into the top ten countries in the medal tally for the first time in its independent history. President Alexander Lukashenko heartily thanked the Olympians and conferred high state awards on them. Three-time Olympic champion Darya Domracheva was awarded the Hero of Belarus star, and champions Anton Kushnir and Alla Tsuper along with bronze medalist Nadezhda Skardino received the Orders of the Fatherland, 3rd class. Skier Sergei Dolidovich, who was fifth in the 50km cross-country, got the Order of Honor. Coaches and specialists were decorated, too. Among them were legendary Nikolai Kozeko whose charges won many tittles in freestyle skiing, head coach of the Belarusian biathlon team Andrian Tsybulsky, Alexander Penigin and Fyodor Svoboda… During the ceremony Darya Domracheva handed over the Belarusian flag which traveled to Sochi with the Olympic team to the President.
