The first air sport festival "70 Years Of Peaceful Skies" dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory gathered 200 athletes from 8 countries in the Belarusian capital. One of the most spectacular events was the International Hot Air Balloon Cup which featured 58 teams from Belarus, Russia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Moldova, Poland, and New Zealand. Of them 54 were hot air balloons and 4 – radio-controlled balloons. The weather was not perfect for ballooning. The launch on the first evening was postponed due to strong wind. However, professionals had a chance to demonstrate their skills in sports and exhibitions programs. They also set a world record worthy of the Guinness Book of Records. On the second day of the competitions Minsk 1 Airport played host to the launch of 54 hot air balloons. The balloons made a 22km journey to the south-east of the city in an effort to set a record of the biggest number of hot air balloons flying over the capital of the state for the Guinness Book. The festival culminated in a grand show, a night glow of hot air balloons near the Minsk Hero City Memorial, in which nine huge domes of the air balloons lit up to match wonderful tunes.
