Wolfram Maas: Germany interested in mutually beneficial economic cooperation with Belarus

MINSK, 17 April (BelTA) - Germany is interested in long-term and mutually beneficial economic cooperation with Belarus, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Belarus Wolfram Maas told a press conference on 17 April.

The press conference was dedicated to the survey "Business Climate in the Republic of Belarus – 2013" which has been prepared by the Office of the German economy in Belarus with participation of the German-Belarusian Economic Club for the second year in a row. According to the Ambassador, such surveys have been conducted by Germany for 10 years, approximately for 20 countries.

The goal of a survey is to do a comparative analysis of the foreign trade conditions in various countries, which reflects the assessment of enterprises regardless of macroeconomic indicators and official statistics. Such surveys are traditionally prepared by the German Industrial Union of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK e.V.) and foreign chambers of commerce (AHK) in Central and Eastern Europe and encourage the exchange of information between companies operating in the region.

The survey provides potential investors with full and reliable information on doing business conditions in the country in question.

The German diplomat stressed that any country which wants to attract investment should keep its investment attractiveness at a decent level. An investor is interested, first of all, in whether the country he invests in maintains political and economic stability, provides legal environment and equal rights as well as updated information.

“Opinions that travel are as important. Nothing could be more convincing for an investor as success stories of other businessmen,” the Ambassador said.

According to the diplomat, German surveys allow comparing the inflow of investment in the states with equal conditions or in the states from one and the same region.
