MINSK, 2 May (BelTA) - The opening ceremony of the 2014 IIHF World Championship will be held at Minsk Arena on 9 May and will last for 15-17 minutes, Head of the Directorate for the 2014 IIHF World Championship Yevgeny Vorsin told journalists on 1 May, BelTA learned.
Yevgeny Vorsin explained that the opening ceremony is strictly regulated by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The ice will be prepared during the opening ceremony. Yevgeny Vorsin did not reveal the details of the ceremony to keep the interest of the guests of the championship.
On 9 May the Minsk Arena fan zone will stay open till 19h30 for everyone, regardless whether they have tickets or not. The fan zone will feature a stage and trade stands.
Yevgeny Vorsin noted that tickets for most of the matches are still available. Tickets for some matches have been almost sold out. The most popular are the matches featuring the teams of the top group: Canada, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Russia, and Belarus. It is still possible to buy tickets even for these matches.
The French and Italian hockey teams will be the first ones to come to Belarus on 6 May.
Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich visited the second venue of the 2014 World Championship - Chizhovka Arena - on 1 May to review the state of its preparedness for the event. Mikhail Myasnikovich talked to the volunteers and the personnel of the cafe that, by the way, rounded off all the prices for the convenience of the guests.
