MINSK, 5 June (BelTA) – The session of the CIS council of heads of security bodies and special services offers a unique opportunity to discuss all kinds of security matters, Chairman of the State Security Committee of Belarus Valery Vakulchik said on 5 June, BelTA has learnt.

Valery Vakulchik noted that such sessions have become traditional for the CIS security services. However, it is not only a good tradition, but also a vital element of efforts to respond to present-day risks, challenges and threats. “Meetings in the format of the CIS council of security chiefs are literally a unique platform to have an open, specific and professional discussion of topical security issues, to identify and determine joint solutions. It is important to have an opportunity to get together to reconcile positions in a multilateral format. This becomes particularly relevant against the backdrop of a very complicated situation on the western borders of the Commonwealth. I am convinced that today’s session will help strengthen security of the citizens of our states,” Valery Vakulchik said.

State Secretary of the Security Council of Belarus Alexander Mezhuyev read out a welcome letter of the Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko to the participants of the session of the CIS council of heads of security bodies and special services.

Minsk is hosting the 36^th session of the CIS council of heads of security bodies and special services. Top on the agenda are cooperation efficiency, joint efforts to combat international terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism. The participants of the session will discuss ways to fight cybercrime and to identify and prevent hacker attacks on information resources of government agencies of the CIS member states.

In the run-up to the Baku 2015 First European Games, representatives of the delegations will communicate their views on maintaining security at large-scale sports events, including in cooperation with security bodies and special forces of the Commonwealth.

Taking part in the session of the council will also be delegations of the CIS Executive Committee and the CIS Anti-Terrorism Center. Invitations to attend the session as observers were sent to special services of Germany, Italy, Spain and France.
