Tozik: CIS intellectuals’ forum puts forward new strategies and initiatives

MINSK, 24 September (BelTA) – The Forum of Creative and Academic Intellectuals of the Commonwealth of Independent States is designed to come up with new strategies and initiatives, Vice Premier of Belarus Anatoly Tozik said at the opening of the forum in Minsk on 24 September, BelTA has learnt.

According to Anatoly Tozik, in the year of the CIS presidency Belarus is glad to provide a platform for renowned intellectuals and artists and youth activists to discuss and put forward concrete cooperation proposals. “Regular meetings of cultural, academic and educational elite offer an opportunity to hold an open dialogue on key issues of humanitarian cooperation,” the Vice Premier said. He emphasized that the forum aims at direct professional communication of its participants, which gives an opportunity to come up with new strategies, initiatives and interesting projects. Such projects as the interstate prize Stars of the Commonwealth, publication of book collections by CIS classics of literature, scientific and educational programs of the international innovative center and nano-technologies help create conditions conducive to cultivating talents and improving professional skills of young people regardless of where they come from.

Addressing the attendees was Mikhail Shvydkoi, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for International Cultural Cooperation, Ambassador at Large and Co-Chair of the CIS Interstate Humanitarian Cooperation Fund. First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Alexander Radkov read out a welcoming message of the Belarusian head of state.

The 8th Forum of Creative and Academic Intellectuals of the Commonwealth of Independent States is held under the motto “2013 is the Year of Ecological Culture and Environmental Protection in the CIS”. The forum is taking place on 23-26 September. This traditional event is the CIS biggest forum dedicated to humanitarian, cultural and informational cooperation.

Partaking in the event are delegations from ten CIS member states: representatives of creative and academic intellectuals in education, culture, healthcare, ecology and environmental protection, mass media, and humanitarian field. The forum includes sections on education, youth policy, information policy and mass media, tourism, cultural cooperation and preservation of historical and cultural heritage, healthcare development. A joint session of the CIS Humanitarian Cooperation Council and the Board of the CIS Interstate Humanitarian Cooperation Fund will take place in Minsk as part of the forum to discuss the progress made in 2013 and prospects for 2014. The program of the forum includes meetings of the Council of the Eurasian Universities Association, the CIS Conservatory and Music Academy Rectors Council, a coordination meeting of heads of CIS humanitarian cooperation bodies.

The organizers of the forum are the CIS Interstate Humanitarian Cooperation Fund, the Government of Belarus under the auspices of the President of Belarus, the CIS Executive Committee, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Minsk City Hall.
