MINSK, 26 August (BelTA) – President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa thinks highly of the economic development of Belarus. He made this statement at a meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko on 26 August, BelTA has learnt.
“Belarus has reached a high level of economic development, which is acknowledged by the international community,” the President of Sri Lanka said. He pointed to the significant role of Alexander Lukashenko in Belarus’ achievements.
Mahinda Rajapaksa emphasized the importance of the ongoing visit, because it is the first one in the history of the bilateral relations. This visit confirms the interest of the two states in strengthening mutually beneficial contacts.
Mahinda Rajapaksa noted that the ways to expand the bilateral cooperation will be discussed during highest-level talks and meetings held by the Sri Lankan delegation. On behalf of the delegation he expressed appreciation for the warm welcome. “I have come to Minsk as a friend of your country and I want to reaffirm Sri Lanka’s strong determination to promote all-round cooperation with Belarus,” Mahinda Rajapaksa said.
