Shepel: Belarus needs Paralympics center

MINSK, 17 March (BelTA) – Belarus needs a Paralympics training center, Chairman of the Belarusian Paralympics Committee Oleg Shepel said as he welcomed the Belarusian national Paralympics team at Minsk International Airport on 17 March, BelTA has learnt.

“The Sochi Winter Paralympics was held at a high level as for many countries the Paralympics is a priority social policy. As soon as we establish the center, we will be able to talk about a new level of training athletes,” Oleg Shepel said.

In his words, today coaches work pro bono. The center will allow covering all the regions and involving more people into the sport.

“In perspective we can set up the Paralympics national ice hockey and curling teams. These sports, however, require big investment. But I believe investments should be injected, first of all, in such sports as fencing, athletics or swimming,” Oleg Shepel said.
