Shchekin: Belarus will strengthen its position as a center of regional development

MINSK, 14 August (BelTA) – In the future Belarus will strengthen its position as a regional development center, Ph.D. Philosophy, Assistant Professor Nikolai Shchekin told BelTA.

"The main achievement of the independent Belarus is peace and security, reliability and stability, political and socio-economic balance. We, Belarusians, our partners and even our ill-wishers have made sure of this again given the recent events in the world, including those in the immediate vicinity of our country. The idea of a unipolar world with the imperial domination of the superpower (the United States) has failed. It no longer meets the objective trends of the world’s development. Attempts to impose the supposedly more progressive model of development on other countries have led to regression, barbarity, blood (examples are the Middle East, North Africa, and now Ukraine). Instead of the declared democracy and freedom they bring chaos and suffering to individuals and entire nations. As a result, frustration with the actions of the might has been increasing. New players can get to the fore, and they have a chance to become the leaders of regional development in the future,” Nikolai Shchekin said.

The expert considers that Belarus might be among them. There are serious preconditions for that. As is known Belarus has proved to be a successful and effective participant in the integration projects such as the Union State, the CIS, the EurAsEC and the Customs Union. The country has a favorable geographical position, multi-vector foreign economic and political ties. Belarus has preserved the sovereign statehood, religious and cultural diversity. Our people have a pronounced sense of pride in their history and identity, Nikolai Shchekin noted.

"Given the ongoing global reorganization of the centers of global strength, our country needs a new strategy for its development, with a focus on the prospect of becoming a center of regional integration. And then the world will discover a new Belarus - open, willing to engage in dialogue, to compromise and lead,” said the expert.
