Shagal: Number of Israeli tourists in Belarus should increase once visas are abolished

MINSK, 11 December (BelTA) – The number of Israeli tourists in Belarus should increase once the Belarusian-Israeli visa-free agreement comes into force, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Israel to Belarus Yosef Shagal told media on 11 December, BelTA has learned.

“We live in a country with a very hot weather. Belarus has a prolific climate, admirable forests. It is a pity that the visa regime was a real hindrance for Israeli people to come here. There are a lot of countries in Europe Israeli people can visit without visas. And, of course, visiting them is cheaper than a trip to Belarus. I think that the number of tourists should increase once visas are abolished,” the Ambassador said.

According to Yosef Shagal, when Israel and Russia introduced a visa-free regime, the number of Russian tourists in Israel soared three times, while the number of Israeli visitors to Russia increased 1.5-2 times.

The diplomat believes that Israeli travelers should see Nesvizh, Lake Naroch and many other great places in Belarus. “Belarus has so many interesting places to visit that I can never stop recommending,” Yosef Shagal said. Another theme of interest is the places in Belarus that are connected with the history of the Israeli people. These are WWII burial places and monuments of the Israeli culture. “It is a huge tourism complex, and it should be developed. No wonder it attracts Israel’s interest,” the Ambassador noted.
