Shagal: Israel has great respect for Belarus’ decision to create Trostenets memorial

MINSK, 9 June (BelTA) - The Israeli people have great respect for the decision of Belarus to create the Trostenets memorial, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel to Belarus Yosef Shagal told the ONT TV channel during the memorial capsule ceremony.

“The tragedy that befell my people, your people, our people was terrible. To forget about it means to betray the memory of people who have done a lot so that we could live peacefully today in this world. Therefore, we treat this decision with respect and I would even say with piety,” he said.

Yosef Shagal noted that the creation of the memorial is a signal to those people who believe that it is time to forget about the horrors of World War II. "There are many who want to erase this memory. As an Israeli, I think it is wrong," he added.
