Putin sends greetings to guests of World Congress of Russian Press in Belarus

MOSCOW, 20 June (BelTA) – President of Russia Vladimir Putin has sent greetings to the participants and guests of the 15th World Congress of the Russian Press which opened in Minsk on 20 June, BelTA learned from the press service of the Russian President.

Vladimir Putin said that the forum is rightly considered one of the remarkable, key events for the international media community, the entire Russian-speaking world. “It traditionally brings together heads and editors of Russian and foreign Russian-language publications, representatives of public organizations and creative unions, those, who love the Russian language, who are interested in the past and present of Russia, who value its rich cultural and spiritual heritage,” the Russian President noted. He is convinced that the congress is an ideal platform for the comprehensive professional dialogue, sharing of journalists’ experience.

It is very symbolic that this year the forum is held in Belarus, its glorious cities of Minsk and Brest, the message of greetings reads. “It is the Belarusian land that bore the brunt of the first offensive of the enemy 72 years ago. The Belarusian people, all peoples of the USSR together went through the hardest ordeals, held out and won the most atrocious war of the 20th century. The feat of the Brest Fortress defenders will forever remain one of the heroic pages of the Great Patriotic War, the symbol of courage and invincible will. I would like to emphasize that it is our common duty and common responsibility to safeguard the sacred memory of those years. The role of mass media in the objective coverage of the events, in counteracting any attempts to distort historical facts cannot be overestimated,” Vladimir Putin said.
