PM: Personnel training for 2014 IIHF World Championship is of primary importance

MINSK, 29 October (BelTA) - It is important to make sure that Belarus has both the required facilities and well-trained personnel for the 2014 IIHF World Championship, Belarus’ Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich said during the Council of Ministers session, BelTA has learnt.

“The 2014 IIHF World Championship due in Belarus next year will be an important event for our country. This is not merely a sporting event,” the Premier underlined.

The organizing committee of the championship headed by Mikhail Myasnikovich keeps a close eye on the preparations for the tournament. These issues include the facilities, equipment, sport, accommodation, services to guests and participants, the issues of organization and financing. To date the organizing committee has held 12 sessions. The Premier has also reported to the President on this matter. “The head of state has given specific instructions. We should make decisions to fulfill the requirements of both the international organizations and the head of state’s,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

“Everyone should work hard!” the Premier noted. He said that the Council of Ministers takes all necessary decisions in a timely manner. However, there is a reason why this matter has been included on the agenda of the session. “We do not have much time left and some problems require close attention of top officials,” Mikhail Myasnikovich stressed.

Mikhail Myasnikovich noted that the construction of the required facilities and personnel training is equally important when preparing for the 2014 IIHF World Championship. “Many hotels will be commissioned. Major repairs and renovations of the existing accommodation facilities are underway. A number of dormitories, vacation hotels, catering and transport companies and others will be used. This is why it is important to prepare the facilities and train personnel in a proper manner,” the Prime Minister underscored.

The session also discussed the activities of the Sport and Tourism Ministry. Mikhail Myasnikovich noted that the national ice hockey team should put up a good performance at the forthcoming championship. “We are constructing the facilities. The entire country is gearing up for it. This is why the results should be good,” he said.

Mikhail Myasnikovich stressed that customs services, road infrastructure and transport vehicles should be well-prepared, too. “The organizing committee pays special attention to security issues. These are the places where a great numbers of people will gather. This is why everything should be thought over meticulously. But to think them over is not enough. The relevant measures should be undertaken, too,” the Premier underlined.
