Nichkasov: China seeks to invest in Belarus’ construction firms

MINSK, 22 July (BelTA) - China is interested in investing in the share capital of Belarusian construction companies, Belarus’ Architecture and Construction Minister Anatoly Nichkasov told media on 19 July, BelTA has learnt.

According to the Minister, during the official visit of the Belarusian President to China the Chinese side expressed interest in investing in the share capital of Belarusian construction companies. “They see how successful and stable Belarusian construction companies are. Chinese partners are ready to participate in the project to set up production of decorative slabs and artificial gems at Belarusian Cement Plant. They will also make direct investment that will total 15% of the cost of the project with the possibility of the further investment,” the Minister said adding that this is not the sale of domestic enterprises but the joint activity of the two countries.

Alexander Lukashenko gave an instruction to implement this project at the launch of the second cement production line at Belarusian Cement Plant. “Belarus has become fully self-sufficient in cement industry products and the next objective is to manufacture cement-containing products with high added value. We have discussed this project with the Chinese side many times and decided that this should be a hi-tech production,” Anatoly Nichkasov said.

According to the Minister, decorative slabs and artificial gems will be in demand both domestically and in foreign markets so these products will not only be import-substituting but also export-oriented.

A general agreement between the Ministry of Architecture and Construction and the Chinese company CITIC Construction Co., Ltd., signed during the official visit of the Belarusian President to China, stipulates joint actions aimed to implement the projects that had not been implemented on the territory of Belarus earlier. “These projects include the use of cement for the construction of highways, motorways and driveways. Moreover, we have tested these technologies when constructing residential areas in Venezuela,” the Minister said.
