“We have a great number of projects and ideas which I believe we will be able to materialize,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said. He expressed appreciation for the grants and financial aid provided by international organizations for healthcare projects in Belarus. The Belarusian head of government assured the WHO Regional Director for Europe that all these funds are used efficiently.

The Premier noted that healthcare is one of Belarus’ priorities. “We are working hard to reduce the child mortality rate and to increase the life expectancy of Belarusians. We also put our best efforts to fight HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis, as the matter is still relevant for our country, too,” the head of government said. Both the government and the country’s leadership make sure that the related projects are well resourced and the funds are spent efficiently.

“We believe that we have a well-structured healthcare system. Healthcare services are available to all. We have a network of research centers that combine science and practice. They conduct very complicated surgeries and develop unique treatment protocols, and are on a par with the world’s best facilities,” Mikhail Myasnikovich said.

Belarus is a rather small country, therefore all Belarusians have an opportunity to be placed at specialized centers and be treated using the latest equipment. “As for out-patient hospitals, we are also trying to improve diagnostics there. Virtually all these services are free; our healthcare facilities also provide healthcare services to foreign nationals,” he said.

Belarusian specialists are trained abroad. Belarus also offers qualification enhancement courses for foreign specialists and arranges various conferences. “We also help establish the so-called core of medical professionals in a friendly nation when an outstanding Belarusian professor comes to this country to conduct unique surgeries and teach advanced treatment methods. This way, Belarusian doctors become well-known around the world,” the Premier said.

Zsuzsanna Jakab welcomed Belarus’ remarkable achievements in healthcare, including the reduction of the maternal death rate and infant mortality rate.
