Myasnikovich: No disagreements between Belarus and Turkmenistan

MINSK, 20 March (BelTA) - Belarus and Turkmenistan share full mutual understanding on all issues on the agenda, Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich said as he met with Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Rasid Meredow on 20 March, BelTA has learned.

“Our views on the main issues on the agenda, both internationally and bilaterally, are similar, which enables us to successfully defend our interests, including in the international arena,” said the Belarusian head of government. In many ways, this level of relationship between the countries is determined by the level of trust between the Presidents of the countries, Mikhail Myasnikovich noted.

Mikhail Myasnikovich stressed that Turkmenistan is a friendly strategic partner for Belarus. This is reinforced by specific projects, mutual trade. The interaction of the two states is comprehensive and systematic. “This is not only commodity trade which is, of course, also very important. We are implementing investment projects, creating joint ventures,” remarked Mikhail Myasnikovich. During today's meeting, the parties are going to discuss the creation of an integrated service center, among others issues, in Turkmenistan.

Belarus’ PM meets with Rasid MeredowThe Prime Minister of Belarus praised the level of cooperation with Turkmenistan in science and education. According to him, it also speaks volume about the level and efficiency of partnership relations.

In turn, Rasid Meredow noted that, before his departure to Minsk, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that Belarus is a reliable long-term partner for Turkmenistan, with which relations are developing across a very broad range of areas.

"The two heads of state have clear development policies for their states, being aware of the realities of where we are today, and seeing the prospects of such development," said Rasid Meredow. The main factor of dynamic development of bilateral cooperation, in his view, is regular contacts at the highest level.

Diplomatic relations between Belarus and Turkmenistan were established on 21 January1993.

For the last five years Belarus-Turkmenistan trade has increased more than 4 times. The export has seen a strong growth mainly thanks to the contracts on deliveries of Belarusian equipment by MAZ, Amkodor, MZKT and MTZ. In 2013, the trade went up by 34.6% to $319.9 million. Exports rose by 36.5% and reached $316.1 million; imports fell by 38.7% to $ 3.8 million. Belarus had a trade surplus of $312.3 million.
