MINSK, 5 June (BelTA) – Belarus’ model of social and economic development is interesting for the European Union participating states, Head of the EU Delegation to Belarus Ambassador Maira Mora told reporters during the opening of the international conference to discuss cooperation prospects, BelTA has learnt.
“Belarus is making good progress in this field; therefore, the EU would like to study Belarus’ efforts to promote social and economic development. Some countries in the EU have a very good social security system, however, this is a privilege of very rich states,” Maira Mora said.
She believes that countries should know more about their neighbors, study their history and culture, as this is the foundation for friendly ties. “Conferences and seminars that are regularly held in Belarus to discuss the Belarus-EU relations help strengthen our contacts,” she added.
The international conference “European Union and the Republic of Belarus: Cooperation Prospects” is taking place in Minsk as part of the EU’s Jean Monnet program. Partaking in the conference are over 140 experts and specialists in European integration, scientists and teachers from Belarus, Bulgaria, Germany, Spain, and Romania.
The conference will feature four workshops: the EU Foreign Policy, the EU Social and Economic Policy, Legal Regulation of the European Integration, and the Education and Culture in the EU. The workshops will be held at the BSU Department of International Relations.
