MINSK, 21 May (BelTA) - Discovering and nurturing gifted children is among the essential priorities of the state in general and the Education Ministry in particular, Education Minister Sergei Maskevich said in a meeting with gifted students, winners of the international subject Olympiads, prizes holders of the Special Fund of the President on Social Support of Gifted Students and Pupils. The meeting was held at the Lyceum of the Belarusian State University.

According to the Minister, highly qualified teaching staff is needed for the children who have already achieved certain successes. “We need to ensure that every gifted young student has a teacher-professor who will nurture and inspire him,” said Sergei Maskevich.

Each of freshmen should be taken good care of. As head of state Alexander Lukashenko said, knowledge, talent and intelligence are the core of the strategy of socio-economic development of Belarus. Discovering and nurturing young talents is the most important task of the state,” Sergei Maskevich said.

The relevant education environment will help attract students into science. Addressing the students, the minister noted: “You are our pride, the national asset and the scientific elite of the country. We are proud that Belarus has such bright children who brought the country 28 medals in 2012 alone including 6 gold. It is an amazing achievement for the whole education system.” In his words, these successes prove that the Belarusian education system is competitive.

Certificates of the President’s Special Fund for Social Support of Gifted Students and Pupils as well as badges “A Prize-Holder of a Special Fund of the President of the Republic of Belarus for Social Support of Talented Youth” were presented to students.
