Maskevich: Belarus seeks long-standing academic ties with Azerbaijan

MINSK, 21 November (BelTA) – Belarus-Azerbaijan cooperation in the field of education has long-term prospects, Education Minister of Belarus Sergei Maskevich told BelTA.

He informed that the education ministers of Belarus and Azerbaijan met in Baku on 21 November to sign a protocol on establishing two new educational institutions in Azerbaijan. The protocol envisages the opening of a resource center for basic vocational training of construction workers in 2013 and a resource center for basic vocational training in mechanical engineering in 2014.

On the part of Belarus the project will be executed by the Republican Institute for Vocational Education. The Belarusian side will be responsible for developing methodology and standards in vocational training and providing organizational and methodological support for training specialists of Azerbaijan at educational institutions and other organizations of Belarus.

The Belarusian State University and the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy signed a cooperation agreement.

Belarus and Azerbaijan have developed an adequate legal framework to promote cooperation in the field of education, Sergei Maskevich believes. The documents signed by the two countries include the interagency cooperation agreement in education and the intergovernmental agreement on mutual recognition of education certificates, as well as 19 cooperation agreements between universities. In the 2013/2014 academic year Belarusian educational institutions enrolled 200 full-time students from Azerbaijan. The figure increases every year.
